personal projects

welcome to my personal projects...

After I graduated from university, even though I was no longer required to complete big projects, I was still finding inspiration from social media and catwalk collections. I thoroughly enjoy creating moodboards of various trends, collections and campaigns, as well as writing mini reports on the observations I make.
I have also created a number of TikTok reels, from trips I went on after university and have decided to include them here in my portfolio

S/S 24 Moodboards

"With “-core” trends being key in 2023, with the likes of ‘barbiecore’, ‘balletcore’ and ‘mermaidcore’, Girlcore looks to make quite the impact!

This trend made its way into mainstream fashion at the end of 2023 and shows no signs of slowing down in 2024. It consists of hyper-feminine design elements such as pearls and bows and staple styles such as mini skirts and exaggerated collars. It’s a blend of romance and femininity and is a timeless representation of beauty and strength.

Previously, being seen to be ‘basic’ and ‘like other girls’ was not what people wanted, however, this trend has flipped that notion on its head. It has reclaimed the childlike, nostalgic aesthetic and put a unique twist on signature styles. With the resurgence of the Mary Janes and the ballet shoe (linked to the balletcore trend) and the popularity of phrases such as “the girls are girling” & “girl math”, the innocence is something which women are craving and this is being replicated in a variety of different ways."

"Despite ‘sparkle season’ traditionally being in the last quarter of the year… sequins, glitter and metallics look to continue into S/S 24. This has been seen many times on the runway this season and is also already moving onto the high street. Partywear is no longer being reserved for the evenings as it is being dressed down and styled with oversized tees and knitwear for a more relaxed daytime look.

Key brands include Reformation and SLA the label."

The new version of Mean Girls has kept to the same colours, theme and overall style. However, the 2024 release has a fresh feel and a very *fetch* marketing campaign!

With Tina Fey having a large role in the new adaptation, the film can create a balance between honouring the original, yet resonating with the current generation and refreshing the characters we are familiar with.

The marketing campaign consists of collaborations with high street stores such as American Eagle, as well as successful OOH marketing on buses and billboards.
Also the marketing trend of cross collaborations with other industries, shows no signs of slowing down with the release of the Donut King X Mean Girls collaboration.

Barbie Trend Research

Summer 2023

"Like most people all I’ve been seeing lately is Barbie, barbie and more barbie! 🎀💕👛 I decided to collate all my favourite looks from the trend & put them into small moodboards!

The trend has been around long before the release of the film, however has surged in popularity astronomically over the last few months. The TikTok hashtag #barbie had 62.6 B views as of mid July and has been featured on the high street, as well as on high profile celebrities such as Lizzo & Kim Kardashian. Last spring Valentino even released a collection of all hot pink clothing.

The trend is inspired by the iconic Barbie doll, whose brand identity is extremely feminine and very, VERY pink. However, this trend isn’t just about aesthetics… it encompasses an infectious positive mindset and effectively portrays the iconic Barbie character that we grew up with, but puts a fresh feel to it and highlights what it means to be a woman in 2023."
